Welcome

Paul Matalucci and Tom Osborne of Apple Core Farm

We're Paul Matalucci and Tom Osborne.

When our nephew Marcus was a toddler, he couldn't say Uncle Paul, so it sounded like "appa caul" or apple core. We knew we wanted to grow heirloom apples, so the name seemed perfect.

Originally from San Francisco, we bought the farm in July 2018 with a dream: plant an orchard of rare apple trees, grow cut flowers, and create a place to celebrate and share Nature's beauty.

This area on the northeast flank of Mount Hood in Oregon has been growing thousands of acres of fruit trees for decades. Locals call the back roads and highways that welcome visitors "The Fruit Loop."

We figured it was destiny.

In 2021, we planted root stock for a new orchard of rare apples and doubled our growing area for cut flowers. In 2022, we added two greenhouses with a total of 3,900 sq. ft. With this new controlled enviroment, we can overwinter eucalyptus and scented geraniums, and jump-start our field season by germinating and up-potting our annual plants in the middle of winter.
